Registration is now open for Colansa’s new Gender and Intersectionality Hub

We are pleased to announce that, as of August 18, registration is open for participation in the new Colansa Gender and Intersectionality Hub, an interdisciplinary space that aims to bring together people interested in addressing gender inequalities and their intersections across food systems.

The Hub was created with the expectation of bringing together diverse experiences and knowledge on gender, intersectionality, and food systems across Latin America and the Caribbean. Its overarching goal is to build a vibrant, horizontal space for exchange and collaboration, where participants themselves can identify shared challenges and collectively define the group’s priorities, strategies, and opportunities for action.

The Hub will be coordinated by Nathalia Antonucci, Colansa’s Gender and Intersectionality Specialist. Nathalia has ten years of experience in managing community-based organizations, building networks, and producing knowledge on gender, intersectionality, and human rights:

“For me, having this space within Colansa is important precisely because it helps prevent gender and intersectionality from being perceived as isolated or secondary issues—topics that are only considered at the end of a process. The goal is for the Hub to help extend this perspective beyond the group itself, so that, over time, it becomes embedded in our projects, actions, and strategies: from the questions we ask to issues that, at first glance, might not seem related to gender and intersectionality,” she said.

Why this space?

Gender inequalities run through the entire food system: from production and access to food to care work and nutritional health.

And they do not affect everyone equally. Women, LGBTQIA+ people, Indigenous peoples, racialized communities, and low-income populations face barriers ranging from limited access to land and the unequal burden of care work to greater exposure to food marketing and weaker regulatory protections—outcomes of historical inequalities that continue to persist and evolve today.
